There’s so much to appreciate about our slice of the Pacific Northwest: outdoor adventures, five-star dining, unique cultural experiences, and awe-inspiring natural beauty. And there’s perhaps no better way to soak up the stunning scenery in this neck of the woods than by spending a night or two under the stars.
We’re proud to offer accommodations for visitors of all ages, including camping and glamping excursions worthy of any travel itinerary. But while camping and glamping may be cousins, there are some distinct differences between them (like a bed). If you’re torn on which option to embrace, consider this your unofficial guide to glamping vs. camping.
What is Glamping?
Being one with nature doesn’t have to mean waking up with a sore back. Enter: glamping (noun; a camping collab that’s, well, glamorous). Simply put, glamping is one of our favorite ways to experience the great outdoors without foregoing the little luxuries that bring us joy.
Glamping at Lakedale
What do those little luxuries look like? At Lakedale, our Canvas Cabins are outfitted with pillow-top beds, flannel duvets, and dining tables, while our Canvas Cottages boast those same amenities, plus a full bathroom with shower, daybed sleeper, and a chandelier. (Rule number one of glamping: Ambiance is everything.)
Whether you opt for a Cabin or Cottage, our custom-built canvas abodes are sturdy, secure, and comfortable—ensuring your peace of mind throughout your stay.
PSA: Our glamp-ground is open from May through September(ish) each year and offers a gorgeous getaway for couples, solo trekkers, families, and friends to make memories that last a lifetime.
Our Yurt Village
Take your whole glamping experience to the next level in one of our custom-built Yurts. Soak your bones in your own private hot tub, listen to the rain patter against the roof while you cozy up with a juicy novel, or grill on the deck while waving to your Yurt Village-mates. There are seven Yurts in total, all offering the ultimate in glamping:
- King-size bed with flannel duvet cover
- Full-size sleeper sofa with flannel duvet cover
- Rocking chair
- Dining table
- Wet bar, refrigerator, microwave, and coffee maker
- Flat-panel SmartTV
- Bathroom with shower, toilet, and sink/vanity
- Private hot tub on the large exterior deck
- Outdoor dining table
- Adirondack chairs
- BBQ
You’ll have views of our Frozen Wind art installation, enjoy the sounds of chirping birds, and all the luxurious R&R you can handle at your fingertips. Yep, it really is that good.
We can’t wait to host you for some glamping at Lakedale, but if you’re looking to log additional locales in the PNW—glampsites if you will—our Guide to Glamping in Washington State has you covered.
Modern Camping
If camping conjures up visions of backcountry bushwhacking and wilderness woes, think again. Modern camping can be an ethereal experience—an opportunity to access an off-the-grid oasis that calms your mind, body, and soul. Take our word for it: camping is cool!
At Lakedale, we have campsites for groups of all sizes, including lakeside, hike-in, and bike-in sites. Each campsite has a firepit where you can put your s’more-making abilities to the test, plus a picnic table and access to bathrooms, recreational activities, and our fully-stocked General Store.
If tenting it isn’t your thing, motor on into our RV camping sites, each complete with electrical and water hook-ups to ensure max comfort during your stay.
And while we’re obviously smitten with San Juan Island, we’d be remiss if we didn’t mention the modern camping opportunities on Orcas, Lopez, and Shaw islands, too. Take a spin through all that the San Juan Islands have to offer for new and seasoned campers alike!

It’s not hard to imagine yourself here. As one of the premier places to camp in Washington, Lakedale offers the best of camping on San Juan Island—with all the benefits of a resort.
